Description/Instructions
Use field 556 to record information about the documentation for serials that explains their contents and use. This field was initially established for the computer file format but through format integration now applies to all materials. Documentation for computer files may be published in print accompanying the computer file, or may be available by remote access. This note is sometimes displayed and/or printed with an introductory term that is generated as a display constant.

The display constant "Documentation:" may be generated as a display constant based on the first indicator value (i.e., "#"). First indicator value "8" specifies that no display constant is to be generated.
